birthday trip - czech!

My mommy came over to visit for a few days short of two weeks. After an evening arrival into Munich and a quick snooze at a nearby hotel, we hopped in the car and headed for Prague.

It was a quick trip but a memorable one, for sure. We stayed in the "Nove Mesto" neighborhood (New Town) at a beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly-located boutique hotel - La Ballerina. Our room was gorgeous with high-ceilings, large windows, and chic decor to boot. The staff was exceptional - so kind, courteous, helpful, and generous. They even hand-delivered a box of gourmet chocolates for my birthday. I couldn't have more amazing things to say about our accommodations and if you plan to visit Prague, I'd absolutely recommend a reservation at the hotel. I digress...

First thing Birthday Morning, we trekked up to Prague Castle for the "Changing of the Guards." The hotel concierge deemed it a "must see" and it certainly was. The changing was quite the spectacle, with brass instruments and drums, and expertly choreographed and executed movements. Definitely a highlight of our time in Praha.

We opted to tour portions of the castle grounds, including the St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, and the Golden Lane with Daliborka Tower.

Our next stop took us to the Old Town center. We visited the Astronomical Clock before treating ourselves - full disclosure: mom treated us - to pedicures and extra-long foot massages.

On Wednesday morning, we had one goal before check out: make it to The Lennon Wall. It did not disappoint, and there was even a local musician jamming on his guitar to add to the ambiance. It's amazing how powerful the words graffiti'd on the wall were to read... messages of hope, peace, kindness, equality, and love.

With only time enough for one stop, we opted for dessert instead of lunch after stumbling upon a Häagen-Dazs storefront tucked into the little corner of a side street. We shared the requisite Birthday Hot Fudge Sunday (a now 29 year old tradition) and headed back to La Ballerina.

En route to the hotel, the sun peaked its beautiful self out and we snapped some blue-sky, sunshine pictures of the incredible architecture.

From Prague, we traveled south. Our next stop: Ceske Budejovice for Hypo's final "away" Champions League match. Spoiler alert: they lost, it was painful, and we headed home almost immediately after.

Though the match didn't end how we would have liked, I refuse to let it taint my experience of such a unique, breath-taking city. Thank you, mommy, for taking me on such a special adventure to celebrate 29. Here's to the last year of my twenties!
